7 Weeks That Made a Difference You not alone

You not alone. A 15-year-old girl with severe anxiety arrives crawling along the wall into the classroom, she has not been to school for 2 years and she feels very, very bad. No one in the room notices her, she just sits quietly and invisibly at the table, she doesn’t say much, she just sits there and listens.

It’s the first day of the course “How to deal with stress, anxiety and depression (SAD) for young people between the ages of 15 and 25” A course that runs over 6-7 weeks, where young people learn to deal with stress, anxiety and depression in their everyday life (SAD).

Back to the quiet invisible 15-year-old girl, in the second module she came up to me with a letter she had written and asked if I wanted to read it to the rest of the class. Of course I would.

The letter was a tightly handwritten letter, written very neatly and neatly, on both sides of an A4 sheet.

You not alone

It was a very emotional letter and with many spelling mistakes, because the girl was profoundly dyslexic, so it was not easy to have to read aloud to the other students, but as I said, I read the letter and while I was reading it I could see out of the corner of my eye that my co-director was sitting and drying his eyes, he discovered that I saw it and said “There must be something in the air I can’t stand”, he was 64 years old and very touched by the content of the letter.

When I finished reading the letter I still had a lump in my throat, and not only that, all the students stood up and started clapping, several of the students exclaimed “You wrote it exactly as I feel”, a of the students also said to the girl “I want to be your friend” and the girl replied “You are the first person who has ever asked me about my friendship – I want to.”

Subsequently, we got the girl into school and into the music school she wanted to attend.

And today, 6 years later, she still whistles when she walks through the city streets, she has just completed her training as a photographer.

Every time I talk about this young girl and how she has progressed today, it still gives me goosebumps. And that is my motivation to keep doing what I do, and if I can just help a person, young or old, to feel better, then I am happy.

You not alone…… You not alone…….. remember that.
